Toxic poisoning

Sir, —From your article (June 20) regarding the rejection of Dr Tizard’s method of diagnosing toxic poisoning, it appears that the Health Department continues to dismiss this method of diagnosis, claiming that it is unreliable and open to operator bias. As a refreshing alternative the Health Department would be better employed in pursuing a course of investigation actually directed at the victims themselves, rather than being preoccupied with the task of proving scientific validity. They are also failing to recognise that toxic poisoning, both chemical and viral, is a “real” problem that is affecting many people in New Zealand today. The method used by Dr Tizard and Dr Blackmore may not be perfect, but at least, by achieving an 80 per cent success rate, they are helping to relieve individuals of the symptoms associated with toxic poisoning. This is better than what orthodox medicine can either offer or provide at the present time. —Yours, etc.,

ANNE M. NY. June 21, 1986.
