Call on passports
PA Auckland Men’s Rights Campaign wants passport procedures tightened to prevent a parent taking children overseas while custody or access cases are pending. The group has asked Internal Affairs Department to make it compulsory for both parents to sign an application for a child’s passport. Mr Philip Wyatt, a campaign member, said that once a parent had obtained a passport for a child, escaping custody proceedings was easy. Securing the child’s return often meant protracted and expensive legal action, Mr Wyatt said. “If a parent takes a
child to a place like America, they can easily vanish and that is the last the other parent hears of them,” he said.
