The day in Parliament
PA Wellington Parliament welcomed a visiting Australian Parliamentary delegation when the House sat at 2 p.m. yesterday. The Speaker, Dr Wall, told the House the Governor-Gen-eral had recommended an appropriation of public funds for the Customs Amendment Bill, the Health Benefits (Reciprocity With Australia) Bill, the Airport Authorities Amendment Bill, the Constitu-' tion Bill, the Public Finance Amendment Bill, the Tokelau Amendment Bill, the Taxation Reform Bill, the Official Information Amendment Bill, the Recreation and Sport Bill and the Shipping and Seamen Amendment Bill. The Minister of Transport, Mr Prebble, made a Ministerial statement to the House.
Ministers answered 19 questions. Members then began the two-hour Wednesday general debate. After the debate ended, Mr A. P. D. Friedlander (Nat., New Plymouth) moved the Introduction of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School Empowering Bill. The bill was introduced and' referred to the Education and Science Select Committee. The Waimakariri River Improvement Amendment Bill and the Greymouth Harbour Board Empowering Amendment Bill were passed through committee stages and were given third readings. Progress was made on the committee stages of both the Auckland Improvement Trust Amendment Bill and the Auckland City Council (Rating Relief) Empowering Amendment Bill. The House rose at 5:27 pm.
