Tannery’s short week to continue

PA Dunedin Staff in a Dunedin tannery would continue to work a four-day week for at least three weeks as the company tried to avoid redundancies, according to the general manager. Mr H. D. Ombler, of the Glendermid tannery, said a downturn in work meant there was not enough to keep the tannery working full-time, and so for the last four weeks staff had been working four days only. He said that it was decided this week to continue on short weeks for a further three weeks. “It is hoped there may be sufficient work for a full-time week by then,” Mr Ombler said. “It is a compliment to everyone that they are working together to make it work.”
