Parramatta loses
A series of upsets has left South Sydney and Parramatta as co-leaders in the Sydney rugby league premiership after the seventh round on Sunday. Only South Sydney, of the top four sides, was successful on Sunday. It overwhelmed one of its strongest rivals, North Sydney, 31-13. Parramatta suffered its first loss, 12-16, to Penrith, while Western Suburbs beat
the much more highly favoured Manly-Warringah, 30-20. Other results: St George 8, Cronulla-Sutherland 6; Eastern Suburbs 27, Canberra 10; Balmain 22, Illawarra 18; Canterbury-Bankstown bye.
