Boxer’s Games hope
Raeli Raeli, the Auckland light heavyweight boxer who was an unsuccessful nominee for the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team, might still compete in Edinburgh. His services might well be enlisted by Western Samoa, provided the Games selectors in that country rate him more highly than their counterparts in New Zealand. Originally third among the six boxing nominations, Raeli
Raeli’s ranking was lowered when it seemed the Games selectors would approve the nominations of only the two candidates listed above him. They eventually chose four boxers, omitting Raeli Raeli and Keith Bullock, of Wellington. Ironically, the New Zealand light welterweight, Apelu loane, wore Western Samoa’s singlet at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
