Grant of $500 to nursing tutor
A Christchurch Polytechnic nursing tutor, Mrs Lynnette Low, has been awarded a $5OO study grant by the New Zealand Federation of Business and Professional Women. Three $5OO awards are made by the federation each year to women doing the final year of an extramural degree through Massey University. Mrs Low is doing a bachelor of arts degree in nursing studies.
South Island women also won the other two study grants, said the Federation’s national president, Mrs Bev Sturgeon, who presented Mrs Low’s award in Christchurch last evening.
Mrs Margaret Pullar, of Gore, and Mrs Pamela Bain, of Invercargill, would receive their awards at a ceremony in Gore next week, she said. Mrs Sturgeon was in Christchurch helping the federation’s Christchurch branch celebrate "international night” “International night” is celebrated by every branch of the federation in the world during February or March. The federation has members in about 70 countries, and the ceremony involves branch members lighting a candle for each of the federation’s member countries.
The ceremony would probably mean more to New Zealand members this year than before because the federation’s biennial international conference was held in Auckland last year, Mrs Sturgeon said. This conference had given New Zealand members the chance to meet members from throughout the world.
