Ten-wicket win

PA Alexandra Ken Rutherford and Stu McCullum batted as if born on Molyneux Park as they piloted Otago to a 10-wicket victory over Northern Districts yesterday. Otago needed 172 runs to win after it had dismissed Northern for 175, and Rutherford and McCullum achieved what could have been an awkward task with little hindrance. The crowd basked in sunshine and contentment as Rutherford, who scored his second century of the match, and McCullum scored the runs in only 144 minutes from 40.5 overs. They had scored 143 together in 163 minutes in the first innings, and thus thenreturn for the match was 317 runs for one wicket in 307 minutes. Together they plundered a beleaguered Northern attack with thrilling, yet disciplined, batting. Otago, which retains its lead in the

Shell Trophy competition, has collected 36 points from three matches. Rutherford scored his unbeaten 105 (a duplication of his first innings) off 121 balls. He reached his century when he off-drove Russell Mawhinney to the boundary, one of 12 fours, with almost regal authority. McCullum, an unselfish but highly efficient partner, scored his unbeaten 65 (seven 4s) from 118 balls. Such was the positive and confident attitude of the Otago batsmen that Northern was not allowed into the match. NORTHERN DISTRICTS First innings 257 Second innings R. E.
