Two riders suspended
PA Auckland Brian York and Peter Johnson were suspended for careless riding at Avondale yesterday. York, the rider of Matamua in the Lion Brown Intermediate, was suspended up to and including January 25. It was held that his mount had caused severe interference to Some Reason, Caius and Evelynn about 100 m from the finish. The platings of Matamua, Evelynn and Old Pirate were unchanged.
According to a representative of the judicial committee, the riders of Caius (Lance O’Sullivan) and Evelynn (Trudy Archer) said in evidence that thenchances of finishing closer had not seriously been affected. Johnson was suspended up to and including Monday after two incidents during the Second Vacation Maiden. The first suspension was for allowing his mount, Pasquinelle, to shift ground inwards when not sufficiently clear of Supa Seal.
It was also held that Johnson allowed Pasquinelle to shift ground 300 m after the start when not sufficiently clear of Margaret Rose.
