Fred’s Fortune shapes well
Special correspondent Palmerston North Fred’s Fortune, a candidate for both the AmmoPhos Marton Cup today and the Terrace Regency at Trentham, worked in fine style at Woodville yesterday. Fred’s Fortune, working on the No. 1 grass which was easy, was doing better than Ego at the end of 1600 m, the last .1200 m in Imin 19.55.
Bess, another in the Terrace Regency and looking improved by recent racing, ran 1200 m with Flight To Reno in Imin 17.55, the last 600 m in 37.55. Bess could go well if she strikes a firm track at Trentham.
Man From Uncle, which looks in top order for the Pencarrow Handicap, ran 1000 m in Imin 7s, the last 600 m in 53.45. He was not disgraced on the first day of the Pahiatua meeting and his form suggests a good chance at Wellington. Chimo, looking fresh, ran from the 600 m in 38s. It was a good effort in the ground.
Gay Asset and Marossa ran 1000 m in Imin 2.35, the last 600 m in 38s. Gay Asset ran a good race last week and might improve on it in the Pencarrow Handicap at Trentham.
Shannon ran an easy 800 m in 535, the last 600 m in 395. He came through his week-end gallop well and should attract a lot of attention in the Evergreen Lodge on the second day at Trentham.
