Whitbread welcome
PA Auckland Crews in the Whitbread round-the-world yacht race will be greeted by Aucklanders in a Queen Street parade on Thursday. Fifteen vintage cars and classic sports cars will transport the skippers of the yachts from Princes Wharf to the Town Hall. A heavy truck with a trailer carrying crew will
follow behind each car. The cars are being provided by enthusiasts’ clubs, and the trucks by companies. Outside the Town Hall a City Councillor, Mr Gordon Barnaby, will welcome the yachtsmen in the absence of the Mayor, Dame Catherine Tizard. Whitbread officials will later join guests at a luncheon.
