Canty girls start well
Canterbury made a fine start in the national under 16 girls’ softball tournament, which began in Hamilton yesterday. In its opening match, Canterbury overwhelmed Taumaranui, 13-3, winning the contest by the bottom of the sixth innings. Karen Scully hit a home run for Canterbury and Mandy
Karatau pitched a fine game, as she did also when Canterbury beat Bay of Plenty, 8-4. The second victory was largely a result of superior base running and a solid team performance. In its two games today, Canterbury will meet Far North and Horowhenua.
