Swedish driver arrives
PA Auckland The Swedish racing driver, Per-Gunnar Andersson, arrived in Auckland yesterday to compete in the Nissan-Mobil touring car series beginning in Wellington on January 26. He will share his Volvo turbo with Garry Pedersen, who hopes to have recovered from a broken arm by then, or Dave McMillan. Andersson, a 28-year-old
engineer in the Swedish Army for 10 years, said in Auckland yesterday that he still managed to compete in the German touring car championship and occasional rounds of the European series. The Wellington circuit will provide Andersson with his first experience of street racing. His car, similar to the Mark Petch Volvo driven to victory at the week-end at
Manfeild by Robbie Francevic, has heavier chassis and body panels. It has been stripped and refurbished in Auckland since arriving by sea late last month. Pedersen considers the car will be reliable, if not as quick as the Petch Volvo. Petch, after originally planning to run two cars, will have one driven by Francevic and Thomas Lindstrom.
