Nardinski finished racing

Nardinski has been retired from racing. His Weedons trainer, Jack Smolensk!, officially announced last evening that due to a deteriorating sesamoid bone in the nearfront leg of the well-per-formed foiir-year-old entire, the horse has been retired from racing and will stand his first season at stud next year.
A former two-year-old Pacer of the Year, when he won the $lOO,OOO New Zealand Juvenile Championship, he won a record $123,890 for his age group as his three-year-old last term. His main wins came in the $120,000 Max Harvey Great Northern Derby over Metal Mickey, Rev’s Choice and Frederick and the 2000 m leg of the John Brandon Derby series, before finishing fourth in the Derby itself. A son of the successful Bye Bye Byrd entire, Nardins B>l'd (which has stood in Australia for the last three years), Nardinski is
the first foal of the former fine racemare, Gina Marie, which won 10 races for Smolensk!, including the 1978 North Islandd Oaks. Raced by Jack Smolenski’s cousins, Brian and Dorothy Smolensk! and their two sons, Dennis and Bob, Nardinski retires with
career winnings of $184,775 the result of eight wins, 11 seconds and seven thirds. His lone win in six starts this term (he was the runner-up on three occasions including a second to Malaz in the Invercargill Cup), was at Addington on Show Day last month, when
he paced the 2600 m from a stand in 3min 18.65, a 2min 3s mile rate.
He took a Imin 59.6 s (placed) mile record as a three-year-old, when the runner-up to Arveeae in the Bay Richwhite Sires Stakes Final at Addington Raceway.
