Racing service extended
Television New Zealand will launch an extended service of interest to racing enthusiasts on Boxing Day. Information on progressive odds has previously only been available to oncourse investors and on Teletext for some feature events, but with a new computer link between the T.AB. and Teletext it will enable progressive odds to be displayed for off-course investors for all races. One “page” will show diraends for the next race at all meetings, while another will
show them for the next race plus one. They will be updated at regular intervals up until 15 minutes before the start of a race. The same link will also provide up-to-the-minute scratchings, track and weather conditions as soon as they are recorded in the T.A.B. computer system. “This first computer-to-computer link with Teletext will open a new dimension for racing enthusiasts. It’s also the first of a number of other computer links which will exploit Teletext’s
strength as an electronic information provider which uses simple broadcast techniques to place it' within everyone’s reach,” said Mr Paul Chaplin, the manager of the Teletext service.
