Stable’s strong hand in supporting races

By

J. J. BOYLE

The Thistoll stable will not have runners in major races at Ashburton tomorrow but will have interesting contenders in supporting events. The Thistoll-trained runners, in order of appearance on the programme will be Pardusco (First Nottingham Park Maiden), Blarney Fair (White Robe Lodge Handicap), Benlea Boy

(Second Nottingham Park Maiden), Ampac (Langdale Park Maiden), and Adios King and Applicate as rivals in the Morwenstow Stud Handicap. Applicate and Ampac were two of the fastest over 800 m in training on the No. 1 grass at Riccarton yester day. They sprinted their 800 m in 48.5 and appeared to do their work well.

Chris Johnson will ride Ampac tomorrow. Ron McCann has been engaged for Applicate, and the stable apprentice, Jackie Jamieson, will ride the other stable runners. Blarney Fair, winner of her last two races in the old season, joined Pardusco and Able Tim yesterday to sprint 800 m in 51s. Hide the Loot continued his preparation for the Ashburton Cup on the second day of the meeting by beating Our Ruler by a length and a half in their 800 m. Hide the Loot recorded 49s and did his work attractively.

Shady News, a fit sprinter for the second leg of the T.A.B. double, recorded 50.25, and her stablemates,

Noble Note and Donizetti, returned 51.15. Noble Note and Donizetti will run for John Bourne's stable in the Star Time Handicap, first leg of the Ashburton T.A.B. double. Ariage and Rattle the Sabre, which will represent the Peter Jones stable in that race, yesterday recorded 50.4 s for their 800 m. Joe Shaw’s pair, Chapel Guard and Denito, followed in 49.45, Speedy Prophet in 51.25, Durack and Stoned in 51.65, Rojeeni and Dominion Belle in 49.35, King’s Maid in 50.85, Julie’s Boy and Mr Magoo in 495, and Harbour Flow in 53.85. Mighty Million wound up for the Woodhams Handicap by scorching over 600 m in 34.45.
