Vicar appointed to St Michael’s

The Rev. Ivan Smith has been appointed the new vicar of St Michael and All Angel Church in Oxford Terrace.

The appointment was announced yesterday by the Bishop of Christchurch, the Rt. Rev. Maurice Goodall. Mr Smith will succeed Canon P. B. Baker, who is retiring after 21 years at St Michael’s.

Mr Smith, who was born in Dunedin, was ordained in Auckland in 1966. He served in several parishes there

before moving to Hamilton in 1976. He spent three years in Waikato as chaplain of Southwell School, a boarding school for boys. While there he helped to rebuild and enlarge the school chdpcl* In 1982, Mr Smith took a position with the GlenmarkWaikari parish. Mr Smith is married and has four children. His appointment at St Michael’s takes effect from February 1, 1986.
