M.P. on 30-day visit to U.S.A.
PA Wellington The Under-Secretary of Transport, Mr Jeffries, expects to hold discussions on A.N.Z.U.S. with State Department officials in Washington next week. Mr Jeffries will leave for Washington on Saturday on a State Department sponsored trip and will stay with the New Zealand Ambassador to the United States, Sir Wallace Rowling, next week.
Mr Jeffries said he intended to study port workings in the United States. “This will be appropriate given the fact we’re in-
volved in an onshore costs study,” he said. He also expects to obtain briefings on the world economy from international banking sector representatives during his 30 day trip. The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Palmer, is scheduled to visit the United States next month to brief officials in Washington on the Government’s proposed anti-nuclear legislation. The Government has said it will introduce in Parliament legislation to ban port visits by nuclear-capable ships by the end of the year.
