Glass-reinforced buildings
Sir,—The introduction of glassreinforced concrete structures to Christchurch could well be a significant advance in the techniques of creating lighter buildings. One of the reasons why glass has/not
found acceptance as a reinforcing material in the past has been its susceptibility to deterioration when in contact with cement. Glass has been used to some extent in feiro boat construction, after being used experimentally in the Soviet Union several years ago. I hope that problems encountered previously elsewhere have now been overcome. — Yours, etc., ALASTAIR MURRAY. Twizel, July 8, 1985.
