Works hearing soon

PA Wellington The Arbitration Court will begin hearing the freezing works tradesmen's relativity dispute on June 5, said a spokesman for the Court yesterday. The Federation of Labour, at a special committee meeting yesterday, accepted the Government's suggestion that the Court sort out the issues. This halted industrial action originally planned for midnight last night which had threatened a shutdown of freezing works.

The Freezing Companies’ Association has also accepted the suggestion made on Monday by the Acting Minister of Labour, Mr Prebble, and has lifted its threatened suspension notices against meat workers.

Work is expected to return to normal at meat works today although there was some disruption at North Island plants yesterday.
