No Meat Workers agreement yet
PA Wellington The Freezing Companies’ Association has yet to conclude a technology agreement with the Meat Workers’ Union. The association’s executive director, Mr Peter Blomfield, said last evening that negotiations had failed to finalise the agreement. “The employers made significant concessions and, based on negotiations which have taken place over the last few weeks, we had good reasons to expect the long-
awaited agreement would be signed,” he said. “Our offer now remains with the union. There is nothing more that we can do at this stage. We are obviously disappointed.” Freezing companies already have a technology agreement with the Auckland and Tomoana freezing workers’ unions. New Zealand’s biggest freezing company, Waitaki N.Z. Refrigerating, has individual agreements at some of its plants.
