House destroyed
PA Hamilton A Hamilton woman and her five children will return from holiday to find their rented home a pile of ashes. Mrs Sophia Ratcliffe and five school-aged children are on holiday in Whangarei while her husband, Paul, is working in Hamilton. Two Hamilton fire engines and two tankers could not save their wooden homestead on the Hamilton to Morrinsville road from
destruction in a spectacular fire on Monday morning Children’s Christmas presents and a new sewing machine for Mrs Ratcliffe were some of the many family goods to be destroyed in the blaze, the owner of the house, Mr John Post, said. Mr Post said Mr Ratcliffe was reached yesterday and went to see the disaster. He had left quickly and was shaken and upset, Mr Post said.
