Drugs and driving
Sir,—To drink and drive is now a sin, but to take drugs and accelerate the crime rate is the accepted thing. The spate of burglaries in Oamaru has reached epedimic proportions and to say that the crimes are not drug related is absolute nonsense. Could anyone please explain through these columns why the drug section of the law regarding driving under the influence of “drink or drugs” has not been enforced with, I repeat, emphasis on the “drugs.” — Yours, etc ’’ L. J. STEVENS. Oamaru, August 21, 1984.
