Chch engineers win contract

A Christchurch firm of consulting engineers will play a leading role in the construction of the $lB million National Art Gallery to be built in Wellington.

Holmes, Wood, Poole and Johnstone, Ltd, was the successful tenderer as structural engineers for the design and construction of the building, which will be erected opposite Parliament Buildings. At least four people in the firm will work on the project which will initially in-

volve some three months of preparatory work. This will be followed by six months preparation of working drawings. Construction is expected to start next year, and the building will be finished in time for New Zealand’s 150th anniversary celebrations in February, 1990.

A Dunedin firm of architects, McCoy and Wixon, has been chosen for the design. Mechanical and electrical design will be done by the Ministry of Works and Development.
