N.Z. man survives
PA Tauranga A Te Puke man clung to a surfboard for six hours in shark-infested seas off Australia after a boat he was in sank. Mr lan Gordon was one of three crew in a 14m ketch which struck a reef about 240 km north of Perth last week. The ketch sank within 20 minutes. The men clung to the surfboard until they were picked up by a fishing
boat. Mr Gordon's father, Mr James Gordon, said yesterday that details of the incident were still sketchy but their son had apparently recovered from his ordeal." Mr Gordon told his parents the crew of the fishing boat had seen wreckage in the water and decided to look for survivors. The area where the ketch sank was well known locally as a danger to shipping.
