Change in coxed four

PA Auckland Kevin Lawton, the West End oarsman named as reserve in the New Zealand Olympic rowing team, has been promoted to the bow seat in the coxed four, the team manager, Dudley Storey, said last evening. Mark Meates (Avon) now becomes the reserve. Mr Storey said the change had been made to give the boat better movement. “Technically there is little difference between the styles of Kevin and Mark,” he said. “The change will probably

make little difference in speed but the coach, Richard Webster, believes the better balance will give a more prolonged run up the course.” Mr Storey said he was pleased with the progress of all the crews. The next goal for the team is time trials, to be held at Lake Karapiro on June 23. "That is when they will try to achieve a knowledge of their boat speed." said Mr Storey. “They will know they will have to improve another 15 seconds in competition, but that will come naturally.”
