Big sponsorship
The Canterbury Rugby Union has entered into the biggest sponsorship contract in its history with the Trusteebank Canterbury.
The sponsorship was announced last evening by the chairman of the union, Mr Merv Barnett, and neither he nor the general manager of Trusteebank Canterbury, Mr Frank Dickson, would put a figure on the contract, apart from labelling it “substantial.” Mr Barnett said it was sufficient to make Trusteebank the union’s exclusive sponsor, but at the same time the bank was happy for it to continue exist-
ing relationships with Adidas and Fresh Up. “The bank’s previous involvement with club rugby will continue and will be extended to all levels of rugby controlled by the union, including representative sides. The bank has expressed a desire that some emphasis be placed on schoolboy rugby,” said Mr Barnett. He said that the contract was for five years with rights of renewal thereafter and that this guaranteed the C.R.F.U. a known source of regular income, in years both good and bad, and it could plan for the future with confidence.
