Weka Pass railway
Sir, — On Monday, June 4, my son and I went to W’aipara and we were surprised at the amount of work that has been done in a short time to the track, and on the collection of equipment, two diesels, and one steam locomotive; good carriages and most of what is required to run any railway. All this has been achieved by a small band of very keen people, who were so pleasant to meet. We had a wonderful day in the clear, country air going about 11km into the Weka Pass to Frog Rock, where all 200 people had a picnic lunch. We had a very interesting and enjoyable day, the scenery was just great too. Thanks to all who cheerfully give their time to the project and to making such outings possible. The children thought it just great, some had not been on a train before. — Yours, etc., R. J. ROWE. June 7, 1984.
