Traffic officer assaulted

PA Auckland A traffic officer was in hospital with serious head injuries last evening after being attacked by a motorcyclist he had stopped. Traffic Officer Dave Watson, a single man in his mid-30s, was admitted to Middlemore Hospital about 6.30 p.m. with a fractured skull, broken jaw, broken cheek bone, and a large gash over his right eye suffered in an attack in

Pakuranga. Senior-Sergeant Malcolm Hill of the Otahuhu police, said Mr Watson had stopped a motor-cyclist and had been set upon by the rider. Mr Watson’s condition was described by hospital staff as satisfactory. A Meadowbank man, aged 20, was arrested and will appear in the District Court at Otahuhu today charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
