’Copter’s noise ‘too loud’

Noise from the New Brighton helicopter has been recorded at 85dba on landing and 90dba on takeoff, said the chairman of the South New Brighton Residents’ Association, Mr W. D. Jarman. The recordings were made by a University of Canterbury authority’ on noise pollution and not the residents’ association, as reported in “The Press" yesterday. The association say’s that the noise exceeds Christchurch City Council limits and it wants the council to stop it. The company running the flights, Garden City Heliflights, says that the City Council had recorded 65dba when the helicopter was flying at 300 m — less noise than a car travelling along the street, it said.
