PA Auckland A big American drug company has given Auckland cancer researchers $500,000 for further research on the anti-leukaemia drug, amsacrine. The company, Warner Lambert, has had a fouryear contract to market new compounds developed by the Auckland Cancer Society’s research laboratory team. The funds come with the renewal of the contract yesterday, for a further four years. Dr Ed Elslager, the vicepresident of chemotherapy for the company’s pharmaceutical research division in Michigan, said the drug could earn up to $lO million a year if marketed.
