S.I. bowls team
The wonderful season that the Linwood bowler, Ken Watson, is having has been recognised with his inclusion in the South Island team to play the North Island at New Plymouth on March 10 and 11.
Watson is the only Christchurch player in the team and he will lead in the triple and the four.
The conditions of selection have been changed this year, and only players who have not represented New Zealand in the past 12 months are eligible. But there is still a surprise so far as the South team is concerned. This is the exclusion of Kevin Darling, who had such a tremendous Dominion tournament. Darling is not playing for the Mornington club and will represent Dunedin at the Rothmans
inter-centre final in Christchurch next week-end. The two teams are: North: Singles, John Murtagh (Taranaki); pairs, Murtagh and Ivan Kostanich (Auckland); triples, Sid Giddy (Bay of Plenty), Dave Dalwin (Taranaki) and John Fitzpatrick (Northland); fours, Giddy, Kostanich, Baldwin and Fitzpatrick. South: singles, Robin Milne (South Canterbury); pairs, Milne and Ken Walker (Dunedin); triples, Ken Watson (Christchurch), Bill Kane (Southland) and Terry Scott (Dunedin); fours, Watson, Walker, Kane and Scott. The only unfortunate side to Watson’s selection is that he will have to forgo the Christchurch champion-of-champions singles, which will be played the same week-end.
