INL move?
The management of the “Southland Times,” the morning newspaper in Invercargill, last evening declined to confirm or deny a report that the paper had been bought by Independent Newspapers, Ltd. Mr I. L. Gilmour, the managing director, said that there had been many rumours over the years about the future of the family-owned newspaper, but if any announcement were to be made on the future of the paper, the staff would be in-formed-before anyone else. An INL newspaper, the “Evening Post” of Wellington reported yesterday that an application for approval of the bid had been lodged with Mr Peter Donovan, the Examiner of Commercial Practices. The Examiner would not comment.
