Board approves draft plan for Rakaia River
The draft management plan for the Rakaia River was approved yesterday by the North Canterbury Catchment Board. After almost two years of preparation and research, the board’s staff presented the final draft document to the board which went into private meeting to consider it. The resource planning manager, Mr R. W. Cathcart, said yesterday that the draft now would go to the printer, and would be on sale to the public on November 19, at a cost of about $l5 to $2O. He said the board would
send copies free of change to the organisations which normally received copies of board documents. The public will be invited to make submissions on the plan, after which the final plan will be formulated. The plan will be shaped by the outcome of a call for a conservation order on the river from acclimisation societies. The National Water and Soil Conservation Authority will hear submissions on the conservation order at the Christchurch Town Hall during the first two weeks of next month.
