Ashburton kite wins U.S. prize
PA Ashburton A box kite made by an Ashburton kite maker, Mr Peter Lynn, was awarded first prize as the best threedimensional kite at the recent American Kite Flyers’ Association annual convention. It was also voted the second-best kite over-all at the convention. “It is very highly regarded over there,” said Mr Lynn, who is just back from the United States. For the best kite accessory at the convention, Mr Lynn won another first prize — for the winder gear he designed for kites.
There was a growing interest in kite flying in the United States, Mr Lynn said. “There has been a real revival of kite-flying. I think people feel that kite flying is relaxing, an escape from stress."
