Public Notices NORTH CANTERBURY CATCHMENT BOARD AND REGIONAL WATER BOARD BYLAW NO. 3 BURNING CONTROL 1983 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at a Special Meeting held on June 24, 1983 the North Canterbury Catchment Board resolved by way of Special Order: (a) to revoke the provisions of North Canterbury Catchment Board Bylaw No. 1 1947 as they relate to burning control, and (b) to make a bylaw to be known as North Canterbury Catchment Board Bylaw No. 3 Burning Control 1983. The above resolution will be submitted to an Ordinary Meeting of the Board to be held In the Board’s offices, corner of Latimer Square and Worcester Street. Christchurch, on Friday, August 5, 1983 for confirmation as a Special Order. The object of the revocation and new bylaw is to provide a revised means of controlling the burning of vegetation within defined hill and high country areas (and associated pockets of arable land) in the Board’s district. The date of revocation and Bylaw No. 3 coming into effect will be determined by the Board at its meeting at August 5,1983. WOOD, Chief Executive Officer NORTH CANTERBURY CATCHMENT BOARD AND REGIONAL WATER BOARD TREE PLANTING ADJACENT TO WATERCOURSES OCCUPIERS of land adjacent to watercourses within the Board’s district are reminded of the provisions of the Board’s Bylaw No. 1 — 1947. Clause 30 of the Bylaw No. 1 states: Except with the precedent consent in writing of the Board no person shall plant willows or other trees and no person in occupation of any land shall cause or suffer willows or other trees to be planted in any watercourse under the control of the Board or on or within a distance of 7.3 metres (24 feet) from the banks of such watercourse or in any place where they will obstruct or be likely to obstruct the free flow of floodwaters in any existing flood channel. The Board is particularly concerned about the Halswell River Drainage District, which is partially within- the Counties of Paparua, Ellesmere and Walrewa, and extends from McQueens Valley to Halswell. Occupiers of land within the Board’s district are reminded of the requirements of this provision of the Bylaw, and those proposing to plant trees closer than 7.3 metres to watercourses are requested to obtain the precedent consent of the Board. Occupiers are also reminded of their obligation to maintain and keep trimmed all trees and hedgerows adjacent to drains maintained by the Board. E. R. WOOD, Chief Executive Officer.
