DIRECTOR - INSTITUTE OF POLICY STUDIES THE INSTITUTE is being established to bring together public and private sectors, together with the University, to study policy issues, particularly of a multi-disciplinary nature. The successful applicant must have a distinguished research background, preferably but not necessarily, in policy studies, as well as the ability to lead and co-ordinate the research activities of staff drawn from varied backgrounds. Salary will be negotiable at the senior academic level. The appointment is for the initial establishment period of two to three years. It is a multi-disciplinary institution offering over 30 courses of study from undergraduate to postgraduate levels to approximately 5000 students. Short courses, research and consulting activities are also undertaken. Deans will be expected to ensure the effective academic and administrative functioning of their School, encourage and develop entrepreneurial activity, participate as members of College Boards and Committees, and maintain close relationships with industry and other appropriate bodies. Applicants for both positions should have strong academic qualifications and expertise in at least one. of the disciplines offered by the School. Appointments will be offered on a tenured basis from February 1984 at the level of Principal Lecturer 2 and the appointees will be offered an initial four year term as Dean subject to review and renewal. Alternatively, the College may be prepared to consider the possibility of secondment from another organisation. As Dean, total remuneration will be set at the level of Head of School level 3, currently $A43,759 per annum for the Dean of Social Science and Welfare Studies and Head of School level 1, currently $A46,977 per annum for the Dean of Business and Public Administration.
