Davis Cup news arranged

Television New Zealand has engaged a news agency in Britain to provide coverage of the Davis Cup tennis tie between New Zealand and Sweden in Eastbourne, England. There will be a maximum of two minutes a day in news bulletins starting tonight. Live coverage is not available to TVNZ because

television companies are covering the event. TVNZ’s head of sport, Mr Keith McEwan, said today that he had investigated the possibility of a special outside broadcast from Eastbourne but the costs were prohibitive. “The matches were originally scheduled for New Zealand but were moved against our advice to

the United Kingdom where there was the risk of no television coverage. This is something we pointed out to the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association in March when it was contemplating this move,” he said. The Wimbledon semi-final between Chris Lewis and Kevin Curran will be screened on “Sport On One” today at 1.45 p.m.
