Rowing shifts venue
The Canterbury Rowing Association will go out of its usual area of operations for the third and final pennant regatta of the season tomorrow. After the first two regattas at Kerrs Reach and Lake Forsyth respectively, the third pennant will be held at Lake Ruataniwha. the new international standard course in Twizel. Both the number of clubs (10) and the number of crews (250) are a record for the pennant series. The total is boosted because of many southern clubs using Ruataniwha for their Christmas training camps-. Among the clubs competing are
Alexandra and Waihopai (Invercargill) from the south and W'airau (Blenheim) from the north, but not the Wairau premiers. The Avon premiers had their Christmas training camp on the W'airau River and the coach. David Lindstrom, has finalised his top four for the national championships at Lake Horowhenue in March. The crew, with seating order not yet decided. is Les O’Connelh Steve Donaldson. George Keys and Mark Meates. James Elliott, who replaces the retired Derek Manning. is the only change in the eight.
