Working hours

Sir.—lt is obvious to any intelligent person that the Ken-nedy-Muldoon idea of four days pay for four days work in the freezing works is not the most efficient way to production. If it is desirable to share the work load, then penal rates for overtime should be banned totally and absolutely in all our activities. We should discourage working excessive hours where the worker becomes plagued with mental and physical fatigue, leading to inefficiency, increased sickness and accident rates, plus general discontent and poor work performance. Presumably, every person has thousands of millions of brain cells within their skulls, but there is grave doubt about how many people make the best use of them. Mother Nature would doubtless increase the efficiency and work performance of our Parliamentarians if common sense would prevail in spreading the work load. The same principle applies universally, let us apply some logical objective thought.—Yours, etc., S. P. ABRAHAM. December 10, 1982.
