Govt unable to provide speaker
No Government spokesman has been found to defend New Zealand’s defence policy at.a Christchurch public meeting tomorrow evening. Mr G. T. Knapp. (Social Credit), and Mr M. A. Connelly (Labour), have accepted invitations to speak about defence alternatives, but the Christchurch Peace Forum was unable to find a Government speaker to fit the bill.. The forum's meeting organiser. Mr Larry Ross, said that the three local National
members of Parliament unfortunately had other commitments. Approaches made to the National Party organisation and the Ministry of Defence had also failed. “I think they have had sufficient notice.” he said. “We are not going to crawl away and die simply because the Government refuses to come to a public meeting." The meeting will continue as planned, at the Workers' Educational Association Centre. 59 Gloucester Street, at 7 p.m.
