Cuts on satellites
PA Wellington Because of funding problems, the future of weather satellites was unlikely to be as exciting as developments in the past had been, the Meteorological Society conference heard in Wellington. Some weather satellite programmes in the United States might be cancelled because of lack of funds, said Mr K. W. Mackerey, principal technical officer for the Meteorological Service. However, while development might be slowed there was no suggestion of cutting out weather satellites altogether. To save money, the Americans were looking in the long term at combining military and weather satellites.
