Jorgensen parole not for comment

Parliamentary reporter

The Minister of Justice (Mr McLay) has declined to comment' on the possibility of an application to the Parole Board for the release of Ronald John Jorgensen.

Mr McLay said yesterday that it was not possible for him to comment on any aspect of the case before the courts. He was replying to several requests for information about the possibility that lawyers acting for Jorgensen would apply to the Parole Board for his release, and about what would happen if Jorgensen was aquitted on a charge of assault. Jorgensen was committed for trial in the District Court at Christchurch on Monday on an assault charge and was remanded in custody to August 27. Earlier this year he was recalled to prison from life parole after his arrest on the charge.
