NZPA Townsville The New Zealand Commonwealth Games hope. Chris Rogers, put in a strong finish but could not catch Australia’s 800 m champion. Peter Bourke. at an international athletics meeting in Townsville on Saturday. Bourke won the event in Imin . 47.95. just 0.4 s outside
the Commonwealth Gaines qualifying time, with Rogers second in 1:48.2. The 24-year-old Melbourne runner set an Australian best time of 1:44.78 at the national titles in Brisbane last March and is expected to push England’s Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett at the' Commonwealth Games in October.
