Soccer increases TV-hire demand
Christchurch television rental firms have been busy catering for soccer fans wanting to watch World Cup soccer matches. * Winter is usually a busy time for the companies, but this one has been busier than usual because of the deeds of the New Zealand soccer, team. Some fans booked / .their seats several months ago, but firms telephoned yesterday said that most of the demand had come in the last week,/ // The demand has been for short-term hire, but most of.the •companies have a policy .’ of hiring sets for a.minimum of six months, for $3O to $35 a month. Mr B. J. Smith, manager of ..Group.; Rentals, Ltd, said that the demand had been more than that for a touring rugby team. Other firms said that the demand was similar
to that of the 1974 Commonwealth Games. This year, hirers have the added attraction of the Commonwealth Games at Brisbane in August if they hire a set for six months. There had also been good demand for short-term hire of video recorders, particularly for the New Zealand team matches and the final, - said’a spokesman for Shipleys Video Services, Ltd. The firm charges $2O a day or $3O a • week-end for the hire of . video ?,, recorders. ' Hospital patients, will also be watching World Cup soccer. A spokesman for Hospital TV Service said that a lot of families had hired sets for one or two days, especially -for family men. The firm offers sets complete with headphones and trolleys./ ’/: a ■
