Farmers’ plight
Sir,-Mr Mulholland’s recent address outlining problems facing farmers, although misdirected in parts, is nevertheless worthy of serious consideration. Irrelevant, emotive and generalised replies, such as that given by. J. M. McKenzie (“The Press,” May 29) only harden attitudes and serve no useful purpose. ■ The organisations these gentlemen so ably represent are equally victims of the gross economic mismanagement in the nation today. They should abandon tactics of
denigration and adopt a policy of co-operation in order that the problems of today and the future can be met in a spirit of national harmony. The Labour Party's call for a social contract between all sectors and central Government coupled with leadership as practised by Mr Geoffrey Palmer M.P.- is the only painless practical way out of the mess—Yours, etc., JOHN FURSDON. June 2, 1982.
