Transport Board rates up

Christchurch Transport Board rates will’ increase 15 per cent this year, a-special meeting of the board confirmed yesterday.

The chairman of the board, Mr J. Mathison, said recently that the increase was necessary for the board to obtain the full potential Urban Transport Council grant.

The board will levy rates for $7,409,500 for the year ending March 31. 1983. After the special meeting, a board meeting was held at which the chairman's allowance was considered. It was decided that the chairman should get the maximum allowable, $6300 a year.

Board members’ remuneration fees were also increased to $29 a meeting, and a committee chairman will receive $34 a meeting. A member can be paid for only one meeting in 24 hours even if he or she attends two or three meetings.
