Sound win for Park
Lancaster Park scored a first innings win over the women’s cricket competition leaders, Riccarton, in the second round of two-day games in Christchurch on Saturday. St Albans had an outright. victory over Sydenham in the other match. Riccarton fell just 18 runs short of the Lancaster Park total of 303 for the first innings after a fine century from Nicki Sherriff and a solid partnership between Sherriff and Karen Gunn. Gunn was unbeaten on 68 when the Riccarton innings closed. Deborah Ford was the Park team’s most - successful bowler with four "wickets. When play was halted with no chance of a further result, Lancaster Park was 102/2 in its second innings with Jenny Olsen not out on 53. St Albans declared its first innings closed at 206/7, one run ahead of Sydenham’s fir?t innings tally. Sydenham then made a generous declaration with its second innings at 104/5, allowing St Albans 100 minutes to make the 101 runs needed for the outright win. The target was reached comfortably by St Albans with Ann McKenna (44) and Vicki Burtt (51) at the crease when the match finished. Lancaster Park 303 and 102/2 (J. Olson 53 n. 0., D.Hockley 34) beat Riccarton 285 (K. Gunn 68 n. 0., N. Sherriff 103, M. Clinton 29; Ford 4/43, D. Hockley 2/58) on the first innings. St Albans 206/7 (K. Hadlee 36, K. Gilray 37 n. 0.; N. Williams 5/ 58, S. Brown 2/68) and 104/1 A. McKenna 44 n. 0., V. Burtt 51) beat Sydenham 205 and 104/5 (M. Campbell 29, S. Brown 33, V. Burtt 2/15) outright. Senior B — East Shirley 117 and 16/1 (S. Jones 21, D. Mitchell 24, n. Gibson 26, C. Williams 13; D. Shanks 2/15, B. Shanks 3/42, T. Watts 37) met Sydenham 74 (G. Shanks 14, D. Shanks 16, B. Sawyers 14; D. Mitchell 3/26, C. Sim 2/20, E. Holland 2/8). Burnside West— University 124 (B. de Joux 37, K. Keenan 18; K. Bond 4/52, J. Cooper 3/29) met St Albans 44 (K. Bond 15). Second Grade.Burnside West—University 98 (Turner 29; M. Smith 4/8) beat Lancaster Park 97 (R. McKenzie 2/18). Third Grade.— Riccarton 73/9 (R. Stockley-Smith 18, K. Patterson 35; S. McKendry 2/22, S. Day 3/22, K. Dawson 3/13) beat Lancaster Park 44 (K. Dawson 23; R. Stockley-Smith 3/16, K. Patterson 4/12). ■
