Verner trio fast at Trentham

Special correspondent Wellington

The Takanini trainer, Ray Verner, finds Trentham a happy hunting ground, and. judging by the final trials of his trio there this time, Gold Hope, Givenchy, and Settle Down, that trend could continue when the Cup meeting opens on the course tomorrow.

While it is Cup day, runners in the big one were notable absentees from the training session yesterday, with just two exceptions. They were Short Stops and Rama, though the Cambridge runner. Azaway, did arrive later in the morning. Short Stops worked on the plough, and Rama ran a pretty smart mile, but that mare’ needs five scratchings to get back in. Most work took place on the outside of the course proper, which was fast. Gold Hope ran the fastest 600 m. and Givenchy, along with Settle Down, the fastest 800 m.

Gold Hope was the first to gallop, and she sped over 800 m in 48, the last 600 m in 34.50. It was a most impressive trial, and the mare seems sure to be a leading light in the Telegraph in what will be her third run back.

Settle Down and Givenchy were equally impressive when they were together at the finish of 800 m in 47. the last 600 m in 34.8. Settle Down will oppose Gold Hope, while Givenchv runs in the

Anniversary, for which he is a leading light after his win in the Arc Adams.

Rama was impressive as she worked a mile in Imin 41s. the last 800 m in 50 and the 600 m in 38. We're in Business ran 800 m in 50.8, the last 600 in 36.7.

Cobham and Double You Ar worked from the 2000 m and ended with 800 m in 51. the last 600 m in 37.5. It was a good trial. David Peake has picked up the Cobham mount in the Pinehaven.

McGinty and Wendy Gaye attracted attention when they worked down the chute. McGinty, the star attraction for the Dalgety on Monday. came to the finish of 800 m in 50.4. the last 600 m in 38.4. It was not fast work, but both had a good look at the crossing.

Indigod was fast over 800 m in 50.4. turning on the speed to end with 600 m in 34.6. He pressed The Dimple hard at Timaru two starts back and is no forlorn hope in the Anniversary.

A southern visitor, Blue Sage which will run later at the meeting, ended 1600 m in 1.43.8, the last 800 m in 51.7 and the 600 m in 37.8.

Taim (Tiley) a Rogerson colt which runs in the Penearrow, was just in front of Lady Adare with Honest Promise behind after 800 m in 48.6, the last 600 m in 36. South Islanders. Glydavari and Lord of the Dance, came lo the finish of 800 m in 50.4. the last 600 m in 36.2. Divine style ended with 800 m in 49.1, the last 600 m in 36.5.
