The national representative marksman. Murray Trowbridge (Christchurch), won two of the opening events at the South Island pistol shooting championships at McLeans Island, Christchurch, yesterday. Trowbridge, aged 36. won the Black Powder match with a score of 365 from a possible 400. and the Mayleigh Cup with a 267 from 300. Otago’s Don Kirkland won the remaining event of the day. the New Zealand match, with a’ tally of 429 out of 600. A 1974 Commonwealth Games representative. John Howatt (Heretaunga). was the runner-up
in the Black Powder match and the New Zealand match. The three-day championships, which serve as one of the selection shoots for next year's Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, finish tomorrow. Results:— Black Powder match (possible 400): Trowbridge. 365 (183. 182). 1: Howatt, 350 (167. 183). 2; Hugh Bullmore (Christchurch). 347 (177. 170). 3. New Zealand match (possible 600): Don Kirkland (Otago), 429 (237, 192), 1; Howatt. 425 (223. 203), 2; Bullmore, 404 (203, 201). 3. Mayleigh Cup (possible 300) Trowbridge, 267, 1; Dever (Otago), 261. 2; Bullmore, 253, 3.
